Many minority attorneys, judges and other legal practitioners observe that while barriers have come down in the profession, change remains slow with stagnation and even backsliding. The recent recession, chipping away at affirmative action, and business diversity programs being less of a priority nationwide have hindered diversity, they say. But many metro Denver law firms contend they believe in diversity and have programs to recruit and cultivate African-American, Hispanic, Native American, gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender and other minority lawyers.

Karen Hester, former Director of Diversity and Inclusion, joined CLI as its new executive director June 10. Karen has more than 10 years of experience in diversity and inclusion, and is also a former practicing attorney.

CLI seeks a dynamic, experienced leader committed to diversity and inclusiveness in the legal profession to serve as its Executive Director. This individual will be responsible for CLI’s day-to-day administration, providing diversity and inclusiveness presentations to CLI members and the public, and driving future programing for the nonprofit. The Executive Director is appointed by and accountable to CLI’s Board of Directors.
