Workshop Descriptions

Workshop 1: What is Diversity?
The first class in the series lays the framework for understanding diversity in the legal profession—different dimensions of diversity; a historical perspective; why diversity is
important in any legal organization, including research findings on the benefits of diversity; and the state of diversity in the legal profession, including the latest statistics.
March 9, June 8, August 10, October 12

Workshop 2: Hidden Barriers & Inclusiveness
The second course in the series introduces participants to the new paradigm of “inclusiveness.” Participants learn about national research studies that document how deeply embedded hidden barriers in legal organizations operate to marginalize female and diverse attorneys. They also learn about unconscious bias “for” and “against” certain groups and how micro-inequities impact diverse and female attorneys. Attendees will be given tools to assess their organization’s proficiency in inclusiveness.

March 23, June 22, August 24, October 26

Workshop 3: Launching an Inclusiveness Initiative, Part I
The third course in the series begins with a review of the principles of the Advancing Inclusiveness Model (AIM) for Excellence and an introduction to the six steps to implementing inclusiveness outlined in CLI’s manual
Beyond Diversity: Inclusiveness in the Legal Profession©. This session provides an overview of the first three steps of the manual:

  • Step One: Laying the Foundation
  • Step Two: External Support
  • Step Three: Integrating Inclusiveness

April 13, July 13, September 14, November 9

Workshop 4: Launching an Inclusiveness Initiative, Part II
